Mine becomes Copper Mine… For Thieves Vancouver B.C., Sutter Gold Mining Inc.
(TSX-VX: SGM) discloses that thieves broke into its gold mine on the
night of June
20th and stole an estimated $10,000 of
copper cable from the mine. The mine which is undergoing
exploration and
development towards reactivation as a gold mine has been left in the dark.
Mine tours to the general public were suspended until flashlights could be purchased
at the local hardware store. Enterprising and Hard Working Thieves
Apparently the thieves cased the mine as part of one of the tours
open to the general public. “They must have been watching the mine until the last
worker left, and then struck with bolt cutters to the gate and portal”, stated
Mr. Stacy
Rhodes, mine manager. “They must have walked a mile underground, cut the big 3
inch copper main, attached it to one of the tour carts and dragged the cable back up
the ramp.” The company’s independent Mining contractor stated, “It took a lot of
hard work to accomplish what they did in one night. Under better
circumstances
I’d be looking to hire hard working individuals like this.”
Commenting on the extent of the damage, Sutter Gold Mining Inc.
President Hal Herron said, “While the cable they took was worth $10,000 at present
copper salvage prices, the damage to the mine infrastructure and
attached
subcomponents which were pulled off the walls as they drove the tour cart back
up the ramp will cost the company over $50,000. Coming off the recent high of visible gold
exposed during ongoing exploration (see news release dated June 28, 2005), this is
like a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. Fortunately, we don’t
anticipate any
major delays as we move the project ahead.” “Having to conduct the underground tours of
a gold mine by flashlight has proven to be real popular with the
grownups that
come out to see what a gold mine looks like. We have had to keep the
little children away as the mine is now just too spooky for the little ones”, said tour
conductor Ms. Chris Boitano. Anyone interested in a
tour of the
Sutter Gold Mine (flashlights included for now) should call 209-267-5594.
The
theft is being investigated by Amador County Sheriffs Department who were
surprised that an active mine site had now been targeted.
Apparently, abandoned or inactive mines have been the targets to
date. About Sutter Gold Mine The Sutter Gold project is situated on a
contiguous 535-acre block of mining claims 45 miles east-southeast of
Sacramento,
Calif., in the central part of the 121-mile-long Mother Lode gold belt. The
Sutter Gold project has been the subject of considerable
modern exploration activity, most of it
centering on the Lincoln and Comet
zones, which are
adjacent to each other and together referred to as the Lincoln project. A total
of 85,085 feet of drilling have been accomplished in 190 diamond drill holes, and
modern underground development consists of a 2,850-foot declined ramp with 2,400 feet of
crosscuts plus four raises. For
